Studio Ghibli day at Mister Nice Guy’s Bakehouse, Ascot Vale

This month has been really fun! Various cinemas around melbourne have been doing a Celebrate Ghibli festival and showing lots of animated movies from the awesome Studio Ghibli. And my friend told me this bakery called Mister Nice Guys Bakehouse was doing a day where they would be doing a Studio Ghibli theme! I was seeing Book of Mormon with my friend that afternoon, but i knew i had to try and squeeze a visit in the morning to this bakery!

So on a sunday morning i trekked over to the other side of town by train. It was raining a little and i had to take out my umbrella. That was PERFECT!! Because in my favourite Ghibli cartoon, My Neighbour Totoro, theres a scene where they wait in the rain at a bus stop, and they use umbrellas 😀

So my plan was to rock up, grab a totoro donut, then head back to the city to meet my friend before the musical. Quick right? I was wrong hahah.

This is what i saw when i arrived:

Ahhhhhh! I thought it was only me who would get up early to go for ghibli food hehe! I was wrong and happy i was wrong 🙂 ghibli fanssssss! ❤️Yeah 😀

When i finally got to the front of the line, i started to get so excited looking around at what they’d done for the theme!

Look at that!! Chalk drawing of a dragon and those dust bunny things! I loved it! I mean in my head i was thinking it would just be totoro donuts. But no… they went all out and i love it!

They had ghibli music playing. The staff were so friendly. I was just buzzing with happiness! 🙂

And then i ordered! I decided to get a totoro donut and a totoro milkshake and a donut to take home for my sis. Totoro is my fav so its all about that big cuddly guy! 🙂

Yup i was very happy i came down, it was a fun and delicious food adventure! 🙂 i wish id known about thei Game of Thrones themed day a few weeks ago! I think they called it ‘Game of Scones’! Hhaha!! 😀

Mister Nice Guys Bakehouse is at 151 union rd in ascot vale. A short pleasant walk from ascot vale train station 🙂

Sweet Evelyn, charming cafe in Brunswick

I went on a big donut adventure day with Tilly, and one of my fav places that we visited was this one, Sweet Evelyn in Brunswick.
Its on a quiet street in brunswick and its such a charming place.

Mmmmm…. looks good right? Since we were on a donut adventure, i just ordered a cinnamon donut, a salted caramel donut hole, and a mocha!

And we chose to sit outside and they have heaters and provide little blankets. I love the little touches! 🙂
And look..

Good stuff! I love a place that does nice coffee art too!
It was yummy, and the staff were so friendly. Oh and we found out that Sweet Evelyn is named after Evelyn, the owners daughter! I really love that 🙂
I really liked this place. I think its one of my favourite places now. Id love to come back here for brunch in the future 🙂

Sweet Evelyn is at 128 Union St, Brunswick

Smith and Deli, vegan heaven :D

I came here with Emily because one of their staff, the lovely Jacqueline, is a mad Twin Peaks fan and they were doing Twin Peaks themed drinks and had cherry pie!

Once i was here, i just had to try their food as well! Jacqueline recommended the faux cheese and pesto sandwich, so i got that!

And because i was in a Twin Peaks mood, of course i have to get a donut!

It was cinnamon and it was damn fine!! 🙂

Im learning that vegan food can be so delicious!

They also sell a big variety of vegan products, like chocolate and icecream and other delicious stuff!

Its not a place where you sit and eat, but you buy your delicious goods and then eat somewhere else! Its got such a nice welcoming vibe! I really love this place 🙂

Its at 111 Moor St in Fitzroy

Me with Jacqueline, holding a few of the bottles of Twin Peaks themed ice tea (The Laura Palmer!) that she and her friend spent all night making! Each bottle has 10 twin peaks references for us to discover. And of course it has to be wrapped in plastic 😀

Met Morgan from Bistro Morgan (donuts!!❤️) at Day of the Donut event

I was in the state library doing some drawing and listening to some funky tunes on my phone. I had heard there was a Day of the Donut event in melbourne central today, starting at 5pm till 7pm or until the donuts run out. My plan was finish drawing around 4:45pm. Roll up to melbourne central, browse a few of these donut stalls and maybe buy one (or two). Oh and message Levina to say lets go get donuts 😀

As i was walking to the area where it was, suddenly, very far from where the donuts were, i was stopped by this scene.

Wowsers! Thats a long line! I knew this already, but this just reaffirmed it for me. Melbourne loves donuts! 😀 heeh and i love how much melbourne loves donuts and food 🙂

Levina and her friend Sally came and I had a really great time chatting and getting excited about what we would see when we got to the front!

And i wasnt disappointed!

Look what we saw at the start!!

That is one massive donut!! Worthy of Homer! 😀

U can buy one too heheeh….. i immediately thought of my friend Tilly who loves donuts and thought it would be a funny birthday present 😀

Ok lets just say the donuts we saw and ate were delicious! But one highlight i want to focus on…

We were at this stall with some creative and yum looking donuts.

And then i saw this young guy standing there serving them. And i was like…… no waaayy…. could it be??

I looked at the boxes and they said Bistro Morgan! It couldnt be? Could it? I got really excited! I asked him, “Are you Morgan?”

And he said yes!

I was over the moon and i said i need go get a photo with you!! Levina took the picture for me!

I was so happy! Ive loved his story ever since i heard about it. He taught himself to cook at age 7. (When he saw people on masterchef cooking, he said “if they can do it, i can do it”). He started making dinner for his family every night. And then making donuts in his kitchen at home. Soon they became more and more popular and before long he was supplying cafes and bakeries around melbourne! At age 14 he was baking for 40 hours a week, and up to 3am each night making 300+ donuts. On top of doing school and athletics!

And his donuts are so fun, creative and delicious, a joy to eat! You can get them at some nice bakeries and cafes around town and also at places like the burger chain Royal Stacks. I had a great day today cos i got to tell him how much of a fan i was of him and his donuts! 🙂 hes really nice! 🙂

Daniel’s Donuts

One of my fav places to get donuts 🙂 jist plain awesome tasting donuts at a great price! Theres a formula for success right there! Its open 24 hours a day! It has cool music playing so it has a fun vibe. No matter what time i come here, i always see people buying donuts!

Today i decided to go with my friend Hanh’s favourite, a plain jam donut.

A classic done well! Its $3! I like good prices 😀

I bite into it..

Delicious jam!! And a generous amount!! I love places that are generous with their servings 🙂

There are so many other types of donuts to try here tok! And the caramel slice i had before was yum!

If youre ever near Springvale (or Hoppers Crossing! My friend Saralisa told me the original Daniels is in hoppers crossing), and want a good donut, check out Daniels! Its at 6-7/819 princes highway, springvale 🙂
