Churros in Chocolate, from A Touchof Spain food truck, outside NGV

I was waiting for my friend in front of the National Gallery of Victoria on this sunny sunday, and i noticed this sign nearby.

β€œThe best churros with chocolate in the World!”

Now that is a bold claim and it really piqued my interest! I always think, you have to be pretty confident in your wares to say that πŸ™‚ i knew I really wanted to try. Once id met my friend and we’d grabbed some food from the nearby market stalls, we were crossing the road to go to the park when my friend said β€œare you gonna try those churros?”.

We were in the MIDDLE of crossing the road when i decided, you know what? I am going to try these. today!! I need to know. Are they the best in the world? πŸ˜€

So we went over and sat down near the food truck. I went up to order some churros and chocolate. And the man said β€œdo you mind waiting for 5 minutes? We have to cook it. Its good when you eat it hot.” I was like thats fine! Ill just eat this market food i have first (delicious Alepas!)

So i was sitting and eating my Alepas and after a while my friend said β€œThese churros are taking a while”

And i joked, maybe hes timing it to that when i finish eating, he can serve it to me straight away.

β€œWell hes just got a few seconds, because youre about to finish” she said.

And i finished eating my alepas. Put it down. Then 10 seconds later, the churros man waved me over to the truck to get my churros!!

Like he waited until i finished eating before serving me my churros!

This is a guy who cares about his customers and their eating experiences.

And here they are. I had a good feeling as soon as i saw them. The i ate them.

Yes!

Those churros were so good! Just perfect.

My friend agreed!

We thoroughly enjoyed eating them πŸ™‚ and they do get my vote too hhaha!! I can vouch for this sign πŸ˜€

The truck is outside the NGV, probably every weekend when the market is on! They also have a facebook page πŸ™‚

Good churros! πŸ™‚

Pho Dakao Hoang, Vietnamese restaurant in Springvale

My friend Fiona has a favourite Vietnamese reataurant she likes to go to in Springvale. Today, I was going to dinner with some workmates and they asked me where should we go eat in Springvale. I love trying new places and so i took this opportunity to check out Fiona’s fav springvale restaurant! And boy am i glad i did!

When we went inside, it was nice and busy! Not bad for early on a thursday night! Its always a reassuring feeling going into a place that is bustling!

We all ordered dishes to share and we ended up getting rice paper rolls, lemon chicken, fried calamari and sweet and sour chicken.

And i got my beloved 3 colour drink of course! Mmmmmm

The rice paper rolls were good!

I have eaten so much vietnamese food in my life, i feel pretty good judging it haha.. and this spring roll was solid! I dont like places that skimp on things. And this place did not skimp! Just a great rice paper roll! πŸ™‚

Everything was yummy. One real standout for me, was the fried calamari

It was so tender and yummy! I was really impressed!

We finished off with a banana fritter.

Mmmmmmm!

Great meal! And really good prices! (I love springvale heheh). And the service was nice too!

One of my fav places to eat vietnamese food in springvale now!

Studio Ghibli day at Mister Nice Guy’s Bakehouse, Ascot Vale

This month has been really fun! Various cinemas around melbourne have been doing a Celebrate Ghibli festival and showing lots of animated movies from the awesome Studio Ghibli. And my friend told me this bakery called Mister Nice Guys Bakehouse was doing a day where they would be doing a Studio Ghibli theme! I was seeing Book of Mormon with my friend that afternoon, but i knew i had to try and squeeze a visit in the morning to this bakery!

So on a sunday morning i trekked over to the other side of town by train. It was raining a little and i had to take out my umbrella. That was PERFECT!! Because in my favourite Ghibli cartoon, My Neighbour Totoro, theres a scene where they wait in the rain at a bus stop, and they use umbrellas πŸ˜€

So my plan was to rock up, grab a totoro donut, then head back to the city to meet my friend before the musical. Quick right? I was wrong hahah.

This is what i saw when i arrived:

Ahhhhhh! I thought it was only me who would get up early to go for ghibli food hehe! I was wrong and happy i was wrong πŸ™‚ ghibli fanssssss! ❀️Yeah πŸ˜€

When i finally got to the front of the line, i started to get so excited looking around at what they’d done for the theme!

Look at that!! Chalk drawing of a dragon and those dust bunny things! I loved it! I mean in my head i was thinking it would just be totoro donuts. But no… they went all out and i love it!

They had ghibli music playing. The staff were so friendly. I was just buzzing with happiness! πŸ™‚

And then i ordered! I decided to get a totoro donut and a totoro milkshake and a donut to take home for my sis. Totoro is my fav so its all about that big cuddly guy! πŸ™‚

Yup i was very happy i came down, it was a fun and delicious food adventure! πŸ™‚ i wish id known about thei Game of Thrones themed day a few weeks ago! I think they called it ‘Game of Scones’! Hhaha!! πŸ˜€

Mister Nice Guys Bakehouse is at 151 union rd in ascot vale. A short pleasant walk from ascot vale train station πŸ™‚

Maccaroni Osteria Italiana, (in Clifton Hill, with great vegan options!)

My friend Jacqui found out i love lasagna (because of Garfield haha!) and so she told me about one of her favourite places to get italian food, Maccaroni Osteria Italiana in Clifton Hill. I decided to go on an adventure to Clifton Hill and check it out!

It was pleasant night! (First night of Spring this year!).

When i finally found the restaurant, (which was conveniently quite close to Clifton Hill station) i stepped inside and immediately felt a warm, cosy vibe. The place looks nice!

I sat down and the lovely waittress handed me a menu, and i took some time reading it, although i had already made up my mind what i was going to order hehehe (lasagna! :D).

So i ordered a lasagna and a coke! I just love coke with my pasta for some odd reason!

While i was waiting, i saw this on the table:

I looked like croutons or something to me, and i assumed thats what it was! But i wasnt 100% sure.. it possibly could have been some crazy potpourri or something haha! But i was hungry so i just picked one up and bit into it!

Yum!! It was edible hahaah! Phew πŸ™‚ and delicious too. I ate all of them before my food came, i couldnt really stop haha.

And then my lasagna came out:

Looks good right? πŸ™‚

Add some cheese…

And then dig in! πŸ™‚

It was so flavoursome, yes!! Great tomato taste. And it was just the perfect amount of slight firmness/chewiness for me! I had a good time eating that πŸ™‚ so much so i wven forgot to drink much of my coke during the meal hehe.

Then for dessert, i ordered an almond tart with custard and apple:

Also delicious! And flavours!

I love places that obviously put a lot of thought and care into their food, and this place obviously does!

I definitely recommend checking this place out if you feel like italian. Especially if you need a place with delicious vegan options! πŸ™‚

Maccaroni Osteria Italiana is at 201 Queens parade Clifton Hill.

Edit:

I came back here again with Jacqui, Ted and Mo and it was so good once again! I ordered the gnocchi and it was so great. So soft mmmmmmmm

Love it! Yummmmmmm

Tiamo, italian restaurant in Carlton

Tonight we were going to Cinema Nova in Carlton to watch a Studio Ghibli movie (Whispers of the Heart), because this month, cinemas were celebrating the awesome animated movies of Studio Ghibli! I really wanted to go to Cinema Nova, because my friend Tilly told me that they were doing Totoro themed Choctops!

I had to go get one! πŸ˜€

Haha!!

And since we were going to cinema nova, we decided to go to dinner first. Levina and Ben suggested we go to Tiamo, one of their favourite places. I was looking forward to it!

Its just across the road from cinema nova. So convenient!

When the lovely waittress came to serve us, i was so impressed that she didnt even need to write down our orders (and there was seven of us!). I told her she had such a good memory snd she said its a good exercise!

I chose to eat a lasagna, because i love garfield and he loves lasagna, so i love lasagna haha! If only i could eat it the way he does, and just shovel it into my mouth πŸ˜€

Looks good right??? And it tasted good too! And at a reasonable price!! Ahhh… i know why levina and ben keep coming back here πŸ™‚

I got to try levina’s mushroom pizza and it was delicious too!

So if youre looking for a yum place for good italian food near the city, i can recommend Tiamo!

Its at 303 lygon st, carlton

Musashi Ramen, cbd

I really wanted to like this place! It is named Musashi, which is the name of one of my favourite novels, about a real life japanese swordsman named Miyamoto Musashi. When i walked in, and saw this cool wall art:

I was like…. please let the ramen here be good! I want to like this place! πŸ˜€

And then the cups of water came out and i saw this:

Little fishes!! So it looks like a fishtank hahah! I love it.

And my friend’s cup had pandas on it!

Awesome!

And they were playing cool jpop music! I felt like i was watching an anime, aw yeah! And also some kpop too i think, i felt like i heard some songs by Big Bang! πŸ™‚

Well i ordered the ramen. I got the Hakata Tonkotsu. And also i saw this drink on the menu, called a Green Tea Monster. And it actually looked like a monster. I had to order it hahah!

I had to right??? I enjoyed that!!

And the ramen was this:

Mmmmmmm…. good stuff! Ramen that hits the spot! πŸ™‚

I was very happy, cos like i said, i really wanted to like a place called Musashi that has a cool picture of a swordsman on the wall! And i did!!

I think this place is open 24 hours a day too.

Adana Wrap from Katik Take Away, Campbellfield

Ok that was amazing. My friend Tilly recommended this place to me ages ago, and ive always been meaning to go, but today i finally got around to going. And boy am i glad i did! She told me its at the end of the Upfield train line, very close to the train station. Actually Tilly and I refer to the Upfield line as the kebab line now πŸ˜€

I was going to visit my friend in brunswick today and i had to catch the Upfield line….. and it was near lunchtime….. and so……

That happened! Hahhaha

I quickly looked on zomato, to see what things people were recommending and the word Adana kept popping up! So i decided on getting an Adana Wrap! (Cos i love eating stuff in my hands! Like crepes mmmmm!) You can also get stuff on a plate too. It looks very appealing! But i want my wrap!!

Its a small place, about the size of your local fish and chip shop. But there was a constant influx of people! Always a good sign! πŸ™‚

I ordered my adana wrap and i asked the man what sauce he recommended and he said chilli sauce for the adana, so i went with his expert opinion!

While waiting i enjoyed the vibe in the place. It reminded me a lot of Andrews Burgers, a small place with delicious food thats constantly got people in there!

Then my order arrived! I went outside to eat.

Look at it! It smelled good. It looked good. It tasted good!! πŸ™‚ the meat was smokey and flavoursome! I forgot about the world for the ten minutes while i was devouring this. Normally i stop to make a quick post on facebook about the food. But not today. I wanted to saviour this first!

Im really glad Tilly posted about this place, and im really glad i finally went to check it out!

Its totally worth the train trip here! Just sit on the train and cross the road and enter food heaven for a little while πŸ™‚

Shandong Mama, dumpling place in the city

There are some really great dumpling places in the city! Everyone has their favs and also different places depending on what their mood is. Today I got to try another good one that i hadnt been to before! Its been on my list of places to try for a long time, ever since i saw the youtube video where Natalie Tran (CommunityChannel) visited melbourne and checked it out.

Its tucked away in Midcity arcade that runs between bourke and little bourke st.
I checked out the menu and i decided i wanted to try the dumplings. They also have different rice and noodle dishes. But i wanted to tick 'shandong dumplings' off my list!

Look at the description of the Little Rachel dumplings! "Mama was rocking her newborn granddaughter to sleept and felt overwhelmed by the serenity and happiness of the moment, and the next instant a new recipe flowed into her mind! Prawn, calamari, salmon in loving embrace accompanied by chives, chinese cannage and a dash of seseme oil."
I loved that! I love when ideas pop into my head, or hearing stories of ideas popping into other peoples heads! I knew i had to order the Little Rachel dumplings!
Also i saw 'eight treasures tea' on the drinks menu. It sounded unique so i went with that!

The eight treasures tea came out first! Pretty right? πŸ™‚ and it was definitely a unique and pleasant flavour to drink!
And then the dumplings came out!

Oh yes. And they were yummy! Definitely unique! I hadnt eaten dumplings quite like these before.

I love the bits of prawn inside lovingly embraced by those other ingredients! πŸ™‚ i definitely enjoyed eating the little rachel dumplings and was left very satisfied!
Im looking forward to coming back and trying out other dumplings. They have one inspired by Melbourne! So i might try that. One day i may try their noodle or rice dishes to see how they are too!

Frank’s, cafe in cheltenham

My friend Tam told me about this place. In a quiet suburban st in cheltenham, there is this bustling little cafe called Frank's.
It had a really friendly vibe and the staff were lovely.
I started off with a mocha.

Ahh coffee art ❤️
And the lovely waittress got me a newspaper to read while i waited for my meal. Which meant i got to read some Garfield, Hagar, etc woohoo.
I asked her what the Fried Chicken Bao was, and she described it to me, and it sounded really unique, so i was intrigued and got that.

Look at they hey? πŸ™‚
And heres what it looks like when i picked it up:

Nice yummy fried chicken encased in soft dough surrounded by an explosion of flavours. Mmmm, i enjoyed eating that!
They also have burgers and donuts and regular brunch options too!
If youre in the cheltenham area (somewhat near southland shopping centre), its a nice place to go for brunch!
Its at 97 cavanagh st, cheltenham.

Sweet Evelyn, charming cafe in Brunswick

I went on a big donut adventure day with Tilly, and one of my fav places that we visited was this one, Sweet Evelyn in Brunswick.
Its on a quiet street in brunswick and its such a charming place.

Mmmmm…. looks good right? Since we were on a donut adventure, i just ordered a cinnamon donut, a salted caramel donut hole, and a mocha!

And we chose to sit outside and they have heaters and provide little blankets. I love the little touches! πŸ™‚
And look..

Good stuff! I love a place that does nice coffee art too!
It was yummy, and the staff were so friendly. Oh and we found out that Sweet Evelyn is named after Evelyn, the owners daughter! I really love that πŸ™‚
I really liked this place. I think its one of my favourite places now. Id love to come back here for brunch in the future πŸ™‚
